Pools are an excellent way for you and your family to have fun and cool down on a hot summer day. They enable you to spend time with family while everyone enjoys themselves whether it is through swimming or playing around in the pool. The pool provides your family fun activities that turn a hot summer day to one that is full of fun However, when you spend excess time in the pool, you expose yourself to a lot of chlorine. That is where a saltwater pool system can make quite the difference.
Why buy a saltwater pool system?
There are numerous advantages to having a saltwater pool system:
Limit your exposure to chlorine
On a sweltering summer day, all you can think about is jumping into a nice, cool pool. However, staying in the pool for a long time exposes you to excess chlorine which can lead to skin irritation, rashes, eye irritation amongst other things. This one of the main problem people face when going into the pool.
Salt water system contains water that is less harmful to you. Chlorine is produced by the salty water and is far less saturated than in other pools. So the exposure of chlorine to your body is far less which means you can stay in the pool for a longer time without having to worry about too much irritation.
They are easier to manage
One of the most tasking job about having a pool is maintaining it. Pools are maintained depending on how often they are used and how big they are. With salt water pools, you don’t have to perform maintenance as often and the overall system for maintaining the pool is not as expansive. You just need to measure the chlorine in the pool on days you have set, usually once a week.
Save you money on maintenance
Since the maintenance system is more compact and the salt water produces its own chlorine, you end up saving quite a lot on maintenance. We understand that salt water pool systems are not cheap but in the long run with a salt water pool you actually end up saving quite a lot. Maintaining a normal pool can cost you a couple of hundred dollars annually while a saltwater pool system can easily be maintained at around a hundred dollars annually.
Limited amount of salt
When we think salt water, we tend to think about ocean water. Well don’t worry, the salt content in salt water pools is far less than that in ocean water. The salt content in salt water pools is similar to what you find in human tear so you can easily open your eyes underwater without much irritation. The salt actually works to make your skin smoother so it has some beneficial impacts also.
With more advantages than disadvantages, salt water pool systems are the best way to go when you get a pool for your home. It may end up costing you more initially but the annual savings add up which make salt water pools fairly cheaper in the long run. So which one should you get?
When buying a saltwater pool system you need to consider the following:
- Size of your pool, so you know which pool system can manage to clean it
- Design of the saltwater pool system
- The method employed by the system to chlorinate the pool
- Ease of installation of the system

Zodiac APURE35 AquaPure Ei Series Electronic Salt Water Chlorine Generator, 35000-Gallon, 120-Volts or 240-Volts Hard Wired
- Works well at chlorinating the pool and ensuring water is soft
- Can work with a pool of up to 35,000 gallons
- The design is slightly odd, took us some time and effort in trying to open to access the battery on the system after we put it in, just to see how the experience is
If you want a sparkling clear pool which requires limited maintenance from your end then the APURE35 AquaPure is a great option. The chlorine generator eliminates the need for you to add any sort of chemical to your pool as it regulates chlorine on its own.
The display on the APURE35 AquaPure is easy to read and allows you to track the level of chlorine. As far as the salt content of the pool goes, it doesn’t really display that. If the water temperature in the pool falls below 75 degrees Fahrenheit then it automatically stops adding chlorine to your pool. You will need to heat your pool, if you have heater, and get the temperature up for the chlorine generator to start up again.
We had some issues with accessing the battery. The design of this system was a bit odd and it took quite an effort to take the battery out. Overall, if you have a pool of 35,000 gallons or less then the APURE35 AquaPure is a fairly decent saltwater pool system. It is priced slightly less than the others on our list and performs just a little below them. So it is a decent buy.
