Yeti has become a premiere manufacturer of coolers. Established in 2006, the company produces coolers that are for everyday use. Coolers that are built for enthusiasts of the outdoors and can sustain any harsh condition. Their products are not just limited to outdoor enthusiasts. They are heavily used in tailgating, barbecues, and other events.
Yeti Tundra 45 lives up to the Yeti standards. Making it one of the most popular products from their line.
Yeti Tundra 45 is Built to Last and For Your Convenience
Yeti employs rotomolding process in the construction of its coolers. The process is used to make kayaks. It means the product while cooling is rotated, resulting in a product that is solid. The technique also removes seams and results in a smooth product with no weak points in the body. The cooler has the capacity to bear up to 500 pounds. Think about it 500 POUNDS, that is how well-made the cooler is. You could easily stand on the cooler and even have another friend or two without even making the slightest of a dent on it.
Tundra 45 also comes with the BearFoot Non-Slip Feet. The 3 inches by 2 inches silicon tabs at the bottom of the cooler prevent it from sliding. It is a reliable support for many fishermen who actually use it as an alternative front casting platform. It is also a choice for many fishermen as it stays put. Come high tide or rough waters, the cooler is not a worry for them. You can test it for yourself. Try moving it on any surface, be it cement or tile. The cooler will not budge.
Yeti has provided customers with two options to carry the Tundra 45. It has DoubleHaul handles on the side which come with a polyester rope and rubber handhold that slide. This makes it easy for you and a friend to carry the cooler. The second option is to use the LipGrip handles which are molded in the main housing. It is hidden from the plain sight and is a great option when you carry the cooler on your own.
Coolers have thick walls which support its process of insulation. Yeti Tundra 45 has walls that are thicker than your typical cooler. This provides the cooler with more area for insulation which means the level of ice retains for a longer period of time.
Yeti uses it patented PermaFrost Insulation, a polyurethane foam (PU) is in the walls and lid to ensure that ice stays ice. The insulation also adds a bit of weight to the Tundra 45, just a small price you have to pay for better insulation. The lid also has Yeti's ColdLock Gasket, which reduces heat intrusion in the cooler.
T-Rex Latching and NeverFail Hinge Systems
Keeping typical coolers locked can be tasking. Many coolers use plastic on the lock which easily breaks or wears down due to the heat. Yeti uses its T-Rex Latching System to ensure the lock lasts. They use rubber, which is flexible, and is more durable. The hinges connect the lid to the body and employ the NeverFail Hinge system. It is quite sturdy and connects the two parts of the cooler well, making sure the lid opens and closes without any problem.
Performance and Ice Retention
To get the best ice retention, Yeti recommends 2:1 ice to beverage ratio. If you were to follow this ratio, you could fit roughly 26 cans with ice in the cooler.
Many users are probably wondering about the ice retention of the cooler. As we know, even with heavy duty use the yeti products have been known for their exceptional performance. To test the Tundra 45, we kept it out for three days with ice and 20 cans, with the 2:1 ratio. The temperature during the trial peaked at about 75 degrees and never fell below 67 degrees. The cooler performed very well as we retained most of the ice that was initially placed in it.
We are certain that with normal use, the tundra 45 can easily store ice with drinks for at least a week.
That is Not All…
Yeti Tundra 45 is a great companion out in the wild as it is bear proof certified. So no matter how big or strong the bear is there is physically no way, unless it opens the lock, it can open or break the cooler.
The tundra 45 also comes with AnchorPoint Tie-Down Slots making it easier to secure it to a boat truck or trailer. It also has a dry goods basket for you to keep your cool snacks in such as sandwiches.
With all our testing and the features of the Yeti Tundra 45 we have deduced that this is a top of the line cooler. The price may be a little steep for individuals that sparingly use coolers. However, for campers, fishermen, tailgaters, and party hosts this is a real investment that they should consider. Oh, it also comes with a five year warranty so if you have any issues with it you can contact the company for service.
